How to preserve a WW2 cemetery and to achieve symbolic reconciliation with landscape intervention?
During the reconstruction of Bled cemetery there was some consideration given to the removal of the small and well planned WW2 cemetery.
The new infrastructure building is placed in the axis of the existing WW2 cemetery. This line continues with a new memorial park, mirrored across the existing military cemetery.
The project is based on a principle of symbolic reconciliation, for the old partisan cemetery and the new park with its stylised Christian signs are very similar.
The memorial park summarises the form, articulation and materials, used on the other side. At the end of the new park an obelisk has been erected, where the flat parterre runs symbolically towards the sky, and at the same time represents an antipode to the obelisk of the WW2 cemetery.
